Caring for Our Community

Every day, First American employees are serving their communities in countless ways. This commitment to philanthropy and community service is part of the rich legacy of our company that dates back to 1889.

The spirit of giving back takes many shapes. Employees donate change in the company’s monthly Change for Charity fundraiser, local offices regularly host food and clothing drives benefitting the less fortunate, and First American has a number of corporate affiliations with major nonprofit organizations.

Our Core Causes

We engage in partnerships and affiliations where our corporate family can make a positive impact for the greater good. First American’s corporate philanthropic efforts are directed primarily at organizations and causes that support three core causes: community development, women’s advocacy and human services.

Volunteers - Habitat for HumanityCommunity Development

Providing homeowners with title insurance is First American’s core business. Some say we play an important role as guardians of the American Dream for our policy holders. This passion for homeownership and the American Dream helps explain why community development is one of our core philanthropic causes.

  • Habitat for Humanity:  First American regularly sponsors “Team Build” events that support the communities in which we live and work. Employees receive one paid day when they take part in a company-sponsored Habitat build—hammering, painting and installing what will, in essence, become a new life for a deserving family.

Women’s AdvocacyVolunteers - Susan G Komen

Approximately 70 percent of our employees are women, so naturally First American supports organizations and initiatives that address women’s health, family and welfare issues.

  • Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” events: First American is sponsoring four Race for the Cure events in 2015: Orange County (Sept. 27), San Francisco (Sept. 27), Phoenix (Oct. 11) and Dallas (Oct. 17).

Volunteer - Habitat for HumanityHuman Services

Service is a one of First American’s fundamental values, and guides our relationships with our customers as well as the community. Our focus on human services provides our offices and employees the opportunity to support causes that are both locally and personally meaningful.

  • Change for Charity: At our corporate office and four other locations across the country, collection boxes are displayed and give First American employees the opportunity to donate their spare change for the benefit of local charities chosen by the employees themselves. First American then adds an additional $1,000 to the funds donated to each designated charity.

Employee Volunteerism

The giving of our time to help others connects us to neighbors, community and, sometimes, complete strangers. The volunteer efforts of our employees span from local to global—wherever there is a need to fill. First American employees contribute their passion, time and money to dozens of food banks, charity walks, children’s causes, animal rescues and more every year.
