Company History
First American Specialty Insurance Company (formerly Five Star) began business in 1987 as a specialty lines insurer for California consumers. The company is California-domiciled with headquarters located in Irvine. In 1995, the company began to de-emphasize transportation risks in favor of personal property risks such as home, dwelling fire, and condo/townhouse insurance. Based on a business philosophy of strong underwriting and competitive pricing First American Specialty (formerly Five Star) outperformed the average results for all insurers writing home and commercial insurance in California from 1995 through 1999. As a result of this above average performance, First American Specialty recently earned an "Excellent" (A) rating from A. M. Best, the oldest and most recognized rating service in the world to report on insurer financial performance. |

First American Corporation acquired Five Star Insurance Company in 1999 and changed the name of that insurer to First American Specialty Insurance Company.
