In 1919, Judge William Bonner and attorney Fred Groesbeck
teamed together to form a company known as Peoples Abstract
and Security Company. The story went that the only
abstract company in Polk County had established a monopoly
by buying out seven other companies in the area and prices
were very high. Judge Bonner owned and platted some ground
and when he found out that abstracts were going to cost him
a small fortune, he and Fred Groesbeck formed the present
company. The company remained in the same family for more
than sixty years until it was acquired by First American
Title Insurance Company of Santa Ana, CA. in 1983. In June
of 2004, Peoples Abstract Company, LLC, filed amendments
to its articles of incorporation changing its name to First
American Title of Polk County, LC.
The title plant was fully computerized in 1986 and is
certified by the Iowa Land Title Association as a
"complete title plant". The company belongs to both the
American and Iowa Land Title Associations, the Iowa
Mortgage Association, the Iowa Home Builders Association
and various other local organizations associated with the
real estate industry.
First American Title of Polk County employs 27 full-time
and 2 part-time employees. The office is open Monday
through Friday 8:00 am. to 5:00 pm. First American Title
of Polk County provides pick-up and delivery service
throughout the greater Des Moines area.
