Parker S. Kennedy named president of First American Title

Parker S. Kennedy, 41, has been named president of First American Title Insurance Company, second largest title insurer in the country. He succeeds D.P. The announcement was made following the regular meeting of the firm's board of directors held Wednesday, April 26 at the national headquarters in Santa Ana.

D.P. Kennedy, 70, will continue as president of The First American Financial Corporation, a general holding company and parent of First American Title Insurance Company. Parker Kennedy will retain his position as executive vice president of First American Financial.

Before becoming president, Parker Kennedy was executive vice president for five years. Since joining First American in 1977, he has served as senior vice president of the firm's Los Angeles subsidiary, First American Title Company of Los Angeles, and was manager of the Ventura County office in Oxnard, California.

Later he was promoted to vice president-national accounts director on corporate staff in Santa Ana. He was named to the board of directors of First American Title Insurance Company in 1981. In 1987, he was elected to the board of The First American Financial Corporation.

D.P. Kennedy, who joined First American in 1948 as legal counsel, had been president since 1963. Under his direction First American expanded from a local office serving one community to a national network of more than 4,500 offices or agents in all 50 states. Also under Kennedy's leadership the company has established itself abroad, providing title services in Guam, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom.

William G. Was, who has been serving as chairman of the board for the past five years, moved to vice chairman. Was also is chairman of the board of First American Title Insurance Company of Arizona, a subsidiary of the parent firm.
