November 29, 1993, SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA
Established in 1870, Fort Bend Title, with three offices in Fort Bend County, and its Houston subsidiary, Citizens Title, which has three offices in Harris County, service customers throughout both counties. George Houghton, Jr., who was majority owner of the company until the purchase, will continue as manager of the company. With 19 years of experience in the title industry, he has been associated with Fort Bend Title since 1980.
"First American continues to expand its strong network of direct operations in Texas," President Parker S. Kennedy said. "Having recently purchased agents in San Antonio and Corpus Christi, this represents our third acquisition of a Texas operation in 1993," added Dennie L. Rowland, First American's regional vice president for Texas, as well as for New Mexico and Oklahoma. "The purchase of exisiting agents and their title plants works well for us because Texas law requires that a title company have a title plant before it can be issued an operating license. We believe that Fort Bend Title's plant is the best in Fort Bend County."
