First American Title names John Bethell vice president-state manager of Michigan

Bethell began his 20-year title career in Illinois, moving to Wisconsin when he joined St. Paul Title Insurance Company in 1980. He was the Dane County branch manager when St. Paul was purchased by First American in 1982, and continued to hold that position. In addition, he was promoted to vice president-state manager in 1984.
Bethell has been active in professional and civic organizations in Wisconsin, including servicing as a director of the Wisconsin Land Title Association, a trustee of the Wisconsin Title Industry Political Action Committee and president of the Madison West Towne Optimists. He attended the College of Dupage and Illinois State University. Bethell, his wife Kathleen and their son Nathan will be moving from their home in Oregon, Wisc., to Michigan in September.
Marvin P. Ripp, a native of Wisconsin, has served as state counsel since he joined First American in 1985. Previously he had worked for 10 years as a sole practitioner in Waunakee. He also served for 11 years in the Army Reserve, rising to the rank of captain. Ripp received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and his master's and juris doctor degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Ripp is currently chairman of the legislative committee of the Wisconsin Land Title Association and serves on the advisory board of the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association. He has also held leadership posts in the state bar association, Rotary and the Optimists. Ripp, his wife Jane and their daughter Sarah will be moving from Whitewater to Middleton soon.
