September 14, 1994, SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA

The First American Financial Corporation announced today that its primary subsidiary, First American Title Insurance Company, has purchased Eureka Title Company in Humboldt County, California, from the family of the late founder, E.G. Wilkenloh. Terms were not disclosed.

Eureka Title, which was established in 1962, has been First American's exclusive agent since the beginning of 1994. Besides its main office in Eureka, it has branch offices in McKinleyville and Fortuna. Vice President and General Manager Metta McClelland, who will continue to manage the operation, has been with the company since 1981 and has been responsible for all firm policies since the founder's death in 1989.

"The purchase of Eureka Title gives First American an operating subsidiary in Humboldt County, one of only a handful of California counties where we previously didn't have a presence," said President Parker S. Kennedy. "The purchase of Eureka Title is an excellent entry in Humboldt County. The company is well run and in recent months has experienced growth in market share. We are confident of Metta's ability to be an effective and profitable manager under our system."
