The First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jerald P. Lewis of San Diego to the position of president and chief executive officer of the First American Trust Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of The First American Financial Corporation. Thomas C. Casey of Newport Beach, Calif., will step into the position of vice chairman after having served as president since 1992. Charles A. Potter of Irvine, Calif., who was chairman and chief executive officer, will remain as chairman of the board.

Lewis joins First American with over 30 years in the trust and banking industry. He began his career with San Diego Trust & Savings Bank in 1959, as a trust officer-court trust administrator. Lewis was promoted to vice president in 1969, overseeing trust business development and, subsequently, trust administration. In 1975, he was made senior vice president and trust services group manager, a position he held until his move to First American.

Lewis received his bachelor's degree in industrial management from San Diego State University, and is a graduate of both the Kennedy Sinclair School of Trust Sales in Princeton, New Jersey, and the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington, where he graduated with honors. Lewis has been involved in both business and charitable activities. He has served as chairman of the investment committee for the San Diego City Retirement Board Administration since 1976, and is a past president of that board. He is also a past chairman of the executive committee of the Fiduciary Financial Services Group of the California Bankers Association. For the Girl Scouts of San Diego and Imperial counties, Lewis served as chairman of the financial committee and as a member of the board of directors.

Lewis resides in San Diego with his wife Elsa. They will be relocating to Orange County, California.
