First American Trust Company announces the retirement of Chairman Charles A. Potter


Chairman Donald P. Kennedy of The First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF) has regretfully announced the retirement of Charles A. Potter as chairman of its trust subsidiary, First American Trust Company. He has also retired from the board of directors of its sister company, First American Title Insurance Company.

"Chuck started the Trust Company in 1961 and did an incredible job throughout his career of developing the reputation and credibility of our trust operations," said Kennedy. "He established a pattern of service and integrity which will continue in the trust company for generations to come. His wise counsel and good humor will be missed by all."

Potter has been engaged in trust work for 39 years, joining First American in 1961 to head up the new trust department. When First American Trust Company was formed as a separate entity in 1969, he was elected president and chairman. He was named to the board of directors of First American Title Insurance Company in 1971.

Before joining First American, Potter was associated with the trust department of banks in Los Angeles and in the state of Illinois. He was also an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for four years. Potter holds a juris doctor from the University of Illinois.

Active in both community and business organizations, Potter has been chairman of the trust division of the California Bankers Association, chairman of California Independent Trust Association, chairman of the board of directors of the National Defense University Foundation, president and chairman of the Defense Orientation Conference Association and president of the Southern California Trust Officers Association. He also serves on the advisory boards of the Salvation Army of Orange County and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Orange County.
