Mark Sachau has been named president and chief operating officer of Oakland-based First American Title Guaranty Company, a subsidiary of First American Title Insurance Company. In his new capacity, he will oversee title and escrow operations in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Solano counties.

Sachau began his career with First American Title Guaranty in 1981 when he was hired as division manager for Santa Clara County. In 1995 he was promoted to executive vice president for the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Solano. Before being hired by First American, Sachau worked for another title insurer for three years as assistant county manager for Santa Clara County, and for four years prior to that, as branch manager.

Sachau holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from San Diego State University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. He is involved with the California Land Title Association as chairman of public affairs, and is a current council member for the San Jose Museum of Art and the San Jose Repertory Theatre. A California native, Sachau lives in Soquel.
