Robert F. Hoyt retiring after 44 years of service with First American Title Insurance Company

February 3, 1997, SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA

Robert F. Hoyt, vice president of First American Title Insurance Company, is retiring after 44 years of service, according to President Parker S. Kennedy.

"Bob has represented the company extremely well for a very long time," said Kennedy. "He knows everybody, and everybody speaks very well of him. We will miss Bob a great deal, but he will continue to coordinate First American's participation in the American Land Title Association annual conferences."

Hoyt began his career with First American in 1950, where he worked in the plant and escrow departments before transferring to the sales department in 1955. Four years later he was appointed assistant vice president and director of sales for the Orange County division, and in 1964 he was promoted to vice president. In 1970 he was transferred to national accounts where he coordinated sales efforts, continuing to serve as vice president up until his recent decision to retire.

In 1944, at the age of seventeen, Hoyt joined the U.S. Navy where he served for two years. After his discharge he attended Santa Ana College, in Orange County, California, where he earned his associate of arts degree. Hoyt also holds a bachelor of arts in business from Fresno State University.

Hoyt also enjoyed a successful career as a quarterback for the Dons at Santa Ana College during 1946-1947. In addition, he also participated in track, where he was on the national mile relay championship team. He continued his football career for the Fresno State Bulldogs, earning First American 2-2-2 mention in The Sporting News Little All-American list during his 1948-49 season with the team.

Hoyt has represented First American at various functions throughout the U.S., and has contributed to numerous civic and professional organizations through his involvement as a board member, including the California Mortgage Bankers Association, the Pat McCormick Educational Foundation, and the Chapman University Athletic Foundation. Additionally, he served as president of the Southern California Mortgage Bankers Association, the National Football Foundation, the Santa Ana College Foundation, Orange County Sports Celebrities and the Orange County Sports Association. In 1979 he received the Alumni Achievement Award from Santa Ana College, and, in 1992, he was honored by the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame, where he received the Ralph Clark Distinguished Citizen Award, which is given to a person who was an outstanding athlete in Orange County and has received recognition in the business community.

A native of the city of Avalon on Catalina Island in California, Hoyt lives in Irvine with his wife, Dorothy. They have three grown children.
