"Having completed our acquisition of Evans Title Companies, Inc., First American now is the largest title company in Wisconsin," said John Bethell, regional vice president for First American. "The fine people at Evans will help us continue our growth."
Founded in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1850, Evans Title Companies, Inc., operates throughout the north central and northeast part of the state. In 1900, the company was purchased by three men, Lamar Olmstead, John Sherman and Peter Kornely, who named it Outagamie County Abstract Company. The company was sold again in 1914 to a group of local businessmen, which included Matt Schuh, Steve Evans’ grandfather. A new corporation was formed and operated under the name Outagamie Loan & Title Company. James Evans began working for the company in 1946, and purchased the company in 1957, renaming it Outagamie Abstract & Title Company. In 1982, Evans retired and sold the company to his son, Steve, who, in 1990, renamed it Evans Title Companies, Inc.
Evans Title, which will operate as Evans Title Companies, has offices in Appleton, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Oconto, Oshkosh, Waupaca and Wautoma, and maintains a staff of over 140 employees, all of whom are expected to remain with the company. Steve Evans, who has 29 years of title industry experience, will remain as president.
"Being able to take full advantage of all the resources First American has to offer greatly enhances both our ability and capability to meet our customers’ needs in this ever-changing market," said Evans. "We expect this acquisition by First American to enable us to continue to grow and to solidify our position as the leading provider of title services in Northeast Wisconsin well into the future."
