First American Title Insurance Company acquires Warren County Abstract Company in Indianola, Iowa

October 13, 1998, SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA

The First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF), the leading provider of real estate-related financial and information services, announced today that its primary subsidiary, First American Title Insurance Company, has purchased Warren County Abstract Company in Indianola, Iowa.

The new acquisition will continue to serve Warren County and will operate under its present name, with George Coon remaining as manager.

The company was founded in 1968 in Indianola by Darrell and Dale Goodhue and Maynard J.V. Hayden. Prior to the company's founding, the tract indices that would eventually comprise Warren County Abstract's title plant were owned by two different Warren County-based companies: Wilson Abstract Company and Hickman Abstract Company. Warren County Abstract Company combined the two separate sets of indices through the purchase of these companies.

"This acquisition, while providing another outlet for First American, will continue to be the profitable, well-run operation that is has been," said Joseph MacNamara, regional vice president for the company. "In addition, it will allow us to provide service to our customers following the expansion and growth from Des Moines into Warren County.
