The First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF), the leading provider of business information and related products and services, announced today that it has named both Gary L. Kermott and John W. Long to the positions of executive vice president of First American Financial. Kermott will continue to serve as president of First American Title Insurance Company, with Long continuing as president of First American Real Estate Information Services, Inc.

Kermott began his tenure with First American in 1983 as a law clerk. Upon receiving his law degree in 1985, he was promoted to assistant counsel on national legal staff. He served briefly in Phoenix as associate counsel before moving to Tucson, Ariz., to manage First American Title's Pima County office. In 1990, Kermott was named president of the company's Arizona division and in 1992 regional vice president for Arizona and Utah. He was promoted to executive vice president of the title insurance company in 1996 and named chief operating officer in December 1997. One year later, Kermott was promoted to president of the title insurance company, replacing Parker S. Kennedy who was named chairman of board for the title insurance company.

Kermott was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, and a juris doctorate from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, Calif. He currently resides in Dana Point, Calif., with his wife, Debra, and their two boys.

Long, president of First American Real Estate Information Services, is a 21-year veteran of the tax service industry. He began his career with Ticor Realty Tax Service, which First American Financial acquired in 1991. Long left Ticor in 1986 to start his own company, New York-based Metropolitan Realty Tax Service, for which he served as president. First American Financial acquired Metropolitan in 1990, making it a part of First American Real Estate Tax Service. Long continued with the company as eastern regional vice president and marketing director. He was promoted to executive vice president in 1991 and was named president in 1993. Long continued as president when the company changed its name to First American Real Estate Information Services in 1994.

Long holds a master's degree in business administration from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. He lives in Tierra Verde, Fla., with his wife, Cathy. Long is the father of three children.
