Richard T. Hopcraft presented with John Lusk Memorial award by Construction Industries Alliance
October 13, 1999, SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA
"I was taken completely by surprise," said Hopcraft. "I was flattered beyond description because of who John Lusk was and what he meant to many of those who benefited from the efforts of the City of Hope." The award, which was presented to Hopcraft by the family of Lusk, honors the individual who exemplifies the qualities and professionalism espoused by the late homebuilder-leadership, philanthropy and recruitment.
Lusk served as founding chairman of City of Hope's Construction Industries Alliance, a group that has raised more than $7 million to bring hope to children and adults facing cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and other illnesses.
Hopcraft, who has served as First American's representative to the alliance for the past 20 years, and as a member of the organization's board of directors since 1977, is responsible for recruiting new board members and organizing various fundraisers to benefit the City of Hope. Hopcraft recently organized the American Spectrum Real Estate Services and Construction Industries Alliance First Annual Golf Tournament, held at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine. The awards gala, together with the golf tournament, generated more than $300,000 for the City of Hope.
Hopcraft's 25-year career with First American has included work in residential resales, subdivison sales and a position as a subdivision manager. Hopcraft has served as vice president-national sales since 1989.
In addition to his work with the Construction Industries Alliance and the City of Hope, Hopcraft serves on the board of directors for the Orange County chapter of Women in Commercial Real Estate, and is also involved with various fundraising efforts for the Building Industry Association, the March of Dimes, the Boy Scouts of America, the International Council of Shopping Centers' Southern California Program Committee, and the Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives.
Hopcraft, a long-time resident of California, lives in Costa Mesa, Calif.
