First American Title Acquires Dentex Title Company

March 28, 2000, SANTA ANA, Calif.

First American Title Insurance Company, one of the nation's largest title insurers, today announced that it has acquired Dentex Title Company in Denton County, Texas, from owners Phil and Ruth Adams. Terms of the acquisition, which closed on Feb. 29, 2000, were not disclosed. Dentex previously had an agency relationship with First American.

Dentex Title Company also has offices in Sanger and Pilot Point, adding to First American's established operations in The Colony, Denton and Lewisville.

Dentex Title Company will operate as First American Title Insurance Company, with Rebecca Arnold-Andersen remaining with the company as Denton County area manager overseeing First American's Denton, Pilot Point, Flower Mound and Sanger operations. Arnold-Andersen, who has 19 years of title industry experience, previously served as president of Dentex Title Company.

"The acquisition of Dentex Title Company complements our Fort Worth Division by increasing our market share in Denton County, bringing us closer to fulfilling our strategy of offering a fully automated, centralized title-searching capability to our customers," said Gary L. Kermott, president of First American Title Insurance Company. "In addition, Dentex Title Company has an experienced staff with more than 100 years of collective experience and an excellent title plant covering all of Denton County with records going back more than 25 years to the original tract books.

Dentex Title Company, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of Adams Title Company, was one of nine title agencies owned and operated by the Adamses. It was founded in 1981 in Denton, Texas, by District Judge John Narsutis and Oleta Hunt. In 1985, a group of local attorneys purchased Dentex Title Company, with Phil Adams purchasing the company in 1994.

"We are excited about the acquisition of our company by First American because of its financial strength and reputation as an industry leader," said Arnold-Andersen. "Furthermore, we'll be able to offer a broader range of products and services to our clients as a result of having access to First American's extensive national network of real estate information."

First American Title Insurance Company, the largest subsidiary of The First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF), traces its history to 1889.
