Jerald P. Lewis Named Chairman of First American Trust
and Thomas M. Kelley Will Step Into Positi

Lewis, who has more than 35 years in the trust and banking industry, began his career with San Diego Trust & Savings Bank as a trust officer/court trust administrator. He went on to assume responsibility for trust business development and, later, trust administration. In 1975, he was made senior vice president and trust services group manager, a position he held until being appointed president of First American Trust in 1994.
Active in both business and charitable activities, Lewis has served as chairman of the investment committee for the San Diego City Retirement Board Administration since 1976, and is a past president of that board. He has served as chairman of the executive committee of the Fiduciary Financial Services Group of the California Bankers Association. He also served as chairman of the financial committee and as a member of the board of directors for the Girl Scouts of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Lewis received his bachelor's degree in industrial management from San Diego State University, and is a graduate of both the Kennedy Sinclair School of Trust Sales in Princeton, N.J., and the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. He and his wife, Elsa, currently reside in Irvine.
Replacing Lewis as president is Thomas M. Kelley, who will step up from his position as executive vice president for the company. A veteran of the title insurance industry, Kelley joined First American Title's Orange County, Calif., branch office as a searcher in 1972. Upon passing the California Bar Exam in 1976, he transferred to the company's legal department as assistant counsel for staff. He later was promoted to national claims officer then, in 1985, was named national counsel for the legal and claims department. Kelley transferred to the company's Los Angeles subsidiary in 1992, where he served as regional vice president until returning to corporate staff in Santa Ana, Calif., as senior vice president-corporate business development.
After receiving a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Nebraska, Kelley went on to earn a juris doctor from Western State College of Law in Fullerton, Calif. He is a member of the American, California and Orange County Bar associations. Kelley and his wife, Kathy, are residents of Tustin.
