December 9, 2002, SANTA ANA, Calif.

First American Title Insurance Company, one of the nation’s largest title insurers, today announced that it has combined its Columbus and Cleveland agency operations into a single state agency operation. Todd A. Jones, vice president and Ohio state agency manager, and Samuel J. Halkias, vice president and manager of state agency operations, have been appointed to oversee the newly consolidated operation.

Based in Cleveland, Jones and his team of agency representatives will be responsible for marketing and managing a growing network of more than 900 agents across Ohio. With nearly 20 years’ experience in the title industry, Jones most recently served as senior executive vice president of Midland Commerce Group, a subsidiary of First American Title Insurance Company. During his tenure there, he played a pivotal role in helping the company to double its size to more than 80 employees in four locations. Additionally, for the last two years, he also has served as president of Midland’s wholly owned subsidiary, Colonial Title.

Jones is a member of both the American and Ohio Land Title Associations. A native of Ohio, he currently resides in Uniontown with his wife, Sandy, and their two daughters, Abi and Nan.

Halkias, relying on his extensive expertise in systems operations and contracts, will provide support for agency operations in the entire state of Ohio. He entered the title insurance industry following 15 years in banking, during which time he held positions as operations manager, chief operating officer and controller. He initially joined First American in 1987, when he was appointed as vice president and manager of the Columbus branch of the company’s Cleveland-based subsidiary, Midland Title Security. He has served as vice president and agency manager for First American’s Columbus agency operations since 1998, and for Ohio Bar Title Insurance Company since 2001. He will be based in the company’s Columbus office.

An Ohio native, Halkias is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in finance and banking. He, his wife, Carol, and their daughters, Julia and Samantha, are residents of Westerville.
