First American Title President Gary L. Kermott Re-Elected to ALTA Board of Governors

November 30, 2004, SANTA ANA, Calif.

First American Title Insurance Company today announced that Gary L. Kermott has been re-elected to the Board of Governors for the American Land Title Association (ALTA). Kermott, who has served as president of First American Title since 1999, was also appointed to serve as chair of the Title Insurance Underwriters Section until October 2005.

Kermott’s career with First American began in 1983 when he was hired as a law clerk in Santa Ana, Calif. After passing the bar in 1985, he was promoted to assistant counsel on the national legal staff. He transferred to Arizona in 1988 and became associate counsel for the state office in Phoenix, then later that year moved to Tucson to manage the Pima County operation. He was named president of the company’s Arizona division in 1990, and in 1993 was named regional vice president for Arizona and Utah. Kermott returned to California in 1996 when he was promoted to executive vice president. He was named chief operating officer a year later, and then was promoted to president in 1999.

The 11-member Board of Governors is responsible for creating association policy, overseeing the financial health of the association, overseeing the work of 33 committees and ensuring the overall welfare of the association.

The American Land Title Association, headquartered in Washington, D.C., represents title insurance companies and their agencies nationwide on a variety of industry and legislative issues. Members of the Association search and insure land titles to protect real estate investors including home buyers and mortgage lenders.
