First American Title Acquires Barbour Title

September 26, 2006, SANTA ANA, Calif.

First American Title Insurance Company today announced that it has acquired Barbour Title Company of WinfieldKan., and The Rogers Abstract & Title Company, a division of Barbour Title Company based in WellingtonKan. Terms of the transaction, which closed Sept. 1, 2006, were not disclosed.

“First American has worked alongside Barbour Title for a very long time,” said Craig Burns, Kansas state manager for First American Title Insurance Company. “We have referred transactions between counties for more than 50 years, and share the same values regarding our customers and the communities in which we live and work. By adding Barbour Title and Rogers Abstract & Title, First American is able to further expand its direct operations in Kansas, as well as gain a highly qualified staff that is familiar with the area.”

For the current transition period, Barbour Title Company and The Rogers Abstract & Title Company will continue to operate under their current names and management structures, with owner Randall S. Barbour transitioning into the role of First American Title’s Kansas state agency manager within the next few months.

“During my 25 years of running Barbour Title Company, and working in the Kansas and American Land Title Associations, it has become apparent that our company needed to grow and expand into a regional company,” said Barbour. “Barbour Title and Rogers Abstract are both committed to the highest product quality and ethical standards, so it was a natural choice to join with First American. Together we will bring seamless service, as well as an unsurpassed strength and peace of mind to our customers, who transact business across county lines.”

Established in 1915 as the Barbour-Collinson Abstract Company, Barbour Title Company is one of the oldest single family-owned businesses in Winfield. In 1997, Barbour Title Company purchased The Rogers Abstract & Title Company, and took over its operations in 1998. In the fall of 2002, the company opened a closing office in Arkansas City. Today, the three offices employ a staff of sixteen that provides abstracting, title insurance, escrow closings and contract escrows for residents of Kansas’ Cowley and Sumner counties.
