November 27, 2006, SANTA ANA, Calif.

The First American Corporation (NYSE: FAF), America’s largest provider of business information, has appointed Kathleen M. Collins to the newly created position of senior vice president, director of corporate compliance, as part of the company’s efforts to continue to centralize and strengthen its existing compliance programs.  Collins will have compliance oversight covering the corporation’s operational, human resources and information security programs, and will retain her positions as special counsel and assistant secretary for the corporation.

“First American recognizes that marketplace and consumer expectations are sometimes moving ahead of regulatory guidelines, leading our company to re-examine what is acceptable and appropriate in today’s business environment,” said Parker S. Kennedy, chairman and chief executive officer of The First American Corporation.  “As an industry leader, we understand the importance of ensuring that every role we play in a real estate transaction be clear and understandable to home-buying consumers and their representatives, as well as to our regulators, employees and shareholders. Our go-forward test goes beyond meeting existing regulatory standards and additionally requires that our companies meet self-imposed standards for good business conduct.”

“We are meeting with, and proactively sharing the details of our compliance program with, each of our regulators to ensure that it aligns with all regulatory guidelines,” said Collins.  “In addition, our title segment compliance officers are meeting with their regulators to address and resolve any pre-existing compliance matters. Our objective is to improve the consumer experience in every transaction where First American delivers services.”

Experienced in state and federal compliance and regulatory requirements, Collins has served as vice president, special counsel and associate counsel for The First American Corporation since 2001. In addition to her extensive industry experience, Collins, who has worked for First American since 1997, holds a bachelor’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and a juris doctor from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

“Katy’s leadership has been instrumental in structuring our current compliance programs,” added Kennedy. “Her background and experience with each of the components of our programs make her the perfect leader for this important company-wide effort that, once fully implemented, will serve as a model for both our company and for the industries in which we operate.”
