United General Title Insurance Company Launches United Lender Services

—Steve Shaw Joins as Division’s President—

October 23, 2006, SANTA BARBARA, Calif.

United General Title Insurance Company, a subsidiary of First American Title Insurance Company and a member of The First American Corporation (NYSE: FAF) family of companies, today announced the formation of its United Lender Services division.  United Lender Services, with offices in California and Pennsylvania, will provide title insurance, closing/settlement services and related products nationwide.

Steve Shaw, United Lender Services’ newly appointed division president, has more than 20 years of extensive experience providing title and closing solutions nationwide, partnering with many of the country’s largest mortgage lenders.  In his new role, Shaw will actively direct the United Lender Services’ teams in establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with lenders and continue United General’s tradition of “Five Star Service.”

“I am very proud to have Steve Shaw join our company,” said Ronald R. Maudsley, president and chief executive officer of United General Title Insurance Company. “Coupled with our current resources, Steve’s experience, integrity, creativity and work ethic assure that United General will leverage all opportunities to provide our lender clients with new products, unparalleled delivery, pricing capabilities and execution.  Steve knows how to execute.”

Using a one-stop-shop approach, United Lender Services offers a variety of customized technical options to ensure the best solutions to lenders’ needs, regardless of size, technical infrastructure or platform. The division offers Web-based solutions that allow for simultaneous multiple-product order placement, statusing and delivery, bundling options, connectivity to industry-leading portals and integration with many major loan origination systems.

“We have access to the best technology in the industry, but our ultimate success will be based on good, old-fashioned customer service,” said Shaw.  “That is what truly sets us apart from our competitors.”

United Lender Services parallels First American Title’s National Lenders Advantage unit and TransContinental Title, two specialized title processing units designed to address the high-volume, centralized service needs of mortgage originators.  Offering three highly efficient channels for complete, nationwide title and settlement services increases First American’s potential of expanding its presence in the large lender market segment.
