First Title Teams up with Allen & Overy for Real Estate Seminar

May 12, 2008, LONDON

First Title Insurance plc (First Title), a subsidiary of First Title plc and the largest provider of title insurance in the United Kingdom and Europe, today announced its participation in Allen & Overy’s Investments in CEE region: opportunities and obstacles seminar, which is set to take place as part of the Central and Eastern European Property Fair (CEPIF)—the largest property and investment event in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

John Bakowski, country manager for First Title in Poland, will be a member of the seminar panel on May 15 at the Warsaw-based event, which is expected to attract more than 4,000 local real estate visitors. Other panellists include property professionals from some of the most renowned companies in Poland, including GE Real Estate, Allen & Overy, First Property Group, Deloitte, Westdeutsche ImmobilienBank, Aareal and Heitman. The seminar will be a chance for professionals to discuss issues surrounding real estate transactions and property development in the CEE, including title insurance.

Bakowski comments: “We believe that our inclusion in the Allen & Overy seminar is a testament to the fact that title insurance is becoming increasingly integral to the real estate industry, especially in the CEE. Not only is the CEE benefiting from significant levels of investment, but the rate at which it is developing gives rise to land ownership questions such as fraud and forgery, land ownership dating back to Communist rule and consistency of land registry. Title insurance is often employed to help to mitigate these risks, in turn giving peace of mind to property developers and investors alike who will consequently be protecting themselves from title defects. This increasingly dynamic market, coupled with the complications of different rules and regulations across the CEE region, has led to companies such as First Title expanding at an unprecedented rate.”

Przemysław Kozdój, senior associate, real estate department at Allen & Overy, Warsaw, comments: “We have managed to invite some distinguished speakers, including developers and investors, who will share their experiences of seeking their ‘promised land’ in CEE countries; bankers who finance these quests; and, last but not least, the tax advisers, title insurers and U.S. lawyers, who know not only where the dangers are but also how to avoid them. We are looking forward to an interesting debate, which promises to bear fruit for both the audience and the panellists.”
