May 26, 2009, CLEVELAND
First American Equity Loan Services (ELS), a division of First American Title Insurance Company, the largest subsidiary of The First American Corporation (NYSE: FAF) family of companies, announced today that its employees have donated more than 5,000 pounds of food to the Cleveland Foodbank and 1,077 DVDs to the United Service Organizations (USO) of Northern Ohio.
These substantial donations were the result of an employee spirit competition, entitled “Reaching New Heights,” that was held by ELS from Feb. 23, 2009, to April 10, 2009. The competition, which took place at the company’s headquarters at 1100 Superior Ave., Cleveland, included events such as games, raffles and employee socials to encourage team building and communication among employees.
“We were delighted that despite these tough economic times, our employees, who were driven by the spirit of community, united to exceed their food and DVD collection goals,” said John Recser, vice president and operations director at First American Equity Loan Services.
“We couldn’t be more grateful to First American Equity Loan Services for the thousands of pounds of food that the company has donated to the Harvest for Hunger campaign,” said Lindsay Doerr, Harvest for Hunger campaign manager with the Cleveland Foodbank. “Their hard work is really paying off for local families in need and is going to go far to help us keep pace with the rising need for emergency food relief in this difficult economy. First American’s efforts are truly impressive.”
The food items donated to the Cleveland Foodbank will assist in supplying food to local hot meal sites, shelters and food pantries. The DVDs donated to the USO of Northern Ohio will be included in care packages that are sent to troops stationed overseas.
“We are so grateful to the management and employees of First American Equity Loan Services,” said Deb Fisher, executive director of the USO of Northern Ohio. “The donation of 1,077 DVDs is a great morale builder for our troops deployed in combat zones. DVDs allow our troops an opportunity to take their minds off the war during their downtime and enjoy movies and games. The USO of Northern Ohio couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of patriotic citizens and businesses such as First American.”
