Christine Biljetina

Christine joined First American in 2013 as an Illinois Underwriting Counsel bringing her extensive experience in both commercial and residential underwriting. Christine began her career as a law clerk for the Illinois Attorney General, while attending Loyola University Chicago Law School and remained there upon graduation until transitioning to the title insurance industry. For over two decades, she has benefitted from a broad exposure to various title insurance companies and diverse roles within the title industry. From her early days of searching and examining simple transactions to underwriting large and complex commercial properties, Christine has been able to refine her title skills to provide First American customers with thorough and prudent underwriting decisions.

In 2005, while working for a large national title insurance company, Christine served as the title manager and underwriting counsel for a high-volume office, which later expanded to include two additional offices.  She was later appointed the area claims liaison for the southwest suburbs where she was involved in researching, investigating and providing claim recommendations to management and claims counsel.

In her current role as Senior Underwriting Counsel, Christine works closely with Illinois State Counsel, and acts as backup thereto, with Senior Midwest Regional Counsel and the Claims Department.  She provides lead underwriting guidance on large and small commercial and residential projects and transactions.  She assists State Counsel in the creation of new Illinois underwriting rules, guidance and exceptions.  She has been a member of various First American national underwriting groups and has been past chair of one of the subgroups.

For over 19 years, Christine has created training materials for, and provided training to, attorney agents, escrow closers, title staff and interns, on title examination and various other title topics.  She has also presented webinars, seminars and authored articles on a variety of real estate topics, including E-closings, e-signatures, e-notarizations and e-recordings, Mortgage Foreclosure, Business Entities and Authority Documentation, Installment Contracts, Deeds, Easements, Legal Descriptions, Homestead Rights, Trusts, Guardianships, HUD, VA and FNMA Closings, Title 101, New Legislation and Case Law, Recent Legislation Changes, Commercial Endorsements, and Policy Coverage.
