James 'Jim' Powers

James Powers is a knowledgeable and customer-focused title industry professional with over 29 years of legal and title industry experience. As Senior Underwriting Counsel, Jim provide support for Wisconsin agencies, including underwriting assistance, continuous education initiatives, marketing presentations for customers, and maintenance of online resources. He also coordinates rates and forms filing with the Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance and consults with agents and employees on software parameters.
Jim joined First American Title in 2003 after working for an attorney agent in a small law firm in North Central Wisconsin and serving as staff counsel for another title insurer. He has participated in underwriting, title insurance production, closing services, continuing education, legislation, marketing and consulting. His background and industry knowledge make him a valuable asset and he looks forward to assisting agents in providing exceptional service to their customers.
Jim graduated from the University of California with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with a minor in American history and received his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School. He is a member of the Wisconsin Land Title Association and served as chair of the Solo/Small Firm Practice Committee of the State Bar of Wisconsin for a number of years. Jim was also a participant in the First American Title Growth and Greatness initiative.
