John Skubina serves as Underwriting Counsel and provides highly responsive underwriting guidance and support to our agency and direct underwriting teams in Alaska and Washington. Regardless of the complexity of the transaction, he has the knowledge, industry experience, and a positive, helpful approach to offering assistance.
Before joining First American, John served as claims counsel for a national underwriter, where he investigated title insurance claims and determined coverage based on issues and practice areas, including missing interests, prior liens or judgments, easements, encroachments, deeded overlaps, the priority of liens and contracts. He also resolved covered issues and provided legal analysis in the retention of outside counsel. In addition, John’s background includes serving as a law clerk for a full-service title agency providing comprehensive services to companies and individuals involved in real estate transactions and serving as an intern for corporate counsel for the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia.
John graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. He is a North Carolina State Bar and the Nebraska State Bar Association member.
